This is a wonderful children's novel, now made into an anime movie by Miyazaki Hayao and Studio Ghibli. I can't wait to see the movie; I love all of Miyazaki's works. As I read the book, I found it easy to imagine everything as it happened and I was very pleasantly surprized by the twists and turns--I could see why Miyazaki would be inspired to make a movie from it.
Noticing a pattern here? Okay, that was totally not worthy of being placed so near William Gibson's wonderful writing. Seriously, this book is awsome. I cannot even begin to describe how cool WG is. He is blessed with the rare ability to write a witty, intellectually stimulating, suspenseful, funny, and real story all at the same time. I really enjoy his imagination, especially with computers and the internets, but also with his quirky characters. I can't do him justice, so I'll settle for lame groupie.
Another great adventure by William Gibson, Idoru takes a young man and a younger girl to Tokyo. As always, the little details in WG's books tickle just the right imagination spot in my brain and the characters are real and understandable. I found myself laughing out loud at all the references to Japanese culture. I drink coffee out of those little cans every morning! WG's style and skill always surprize but never disappoint.
