This Buddha was covered in cement long long ago. Workers were moving it to a museum when an accident happened and some of the cement broke off, revealing a golden Buddha. He's now living it up at Wat Traimit in Bangkok. That kitschy thing in the second picure is a fortune machine--it says "risk merit making" at the top.
Even Ronald is culturally aware.
Ok, I need to change my date/time strategy...it's getting too confusing. Here are some more Thailand photos; obviously they weren't taken today. These are the last from the Imperial Palace. Not sure if the guard in the last picture was mad that I took a picture or just trying to look tough.
Some favorites from the last week.
Sorry about the blurriness, but here are the chocolates of questionable moral fibre.
I loved these demon guys. There were two stupa-type structures behind the Temple to the Emerald Buddha with these demons dancing around and looking scary. Beware! We are sparkly!
It's gonna take a few days to get through all the pics I took at the Imperial Palace. Here are some of my favorite sparkly things.
Neon signs on Koh San Road, backpackers' paradise and hell.
This is a Chinese temple we found in Bangkok on our way to Wat Traimit. There was a very friendly guy on the lookout (I would say 'security guard' but he wasn't nearly scary enough) and he gave us a very warm welcome and told us a bit about the history of the temple. Next door, there was an interesting-looking Chinese medicine hospital.
These gryphon-like creatures were everywhere at the Imperial Palace in Bangkok. This is the temple that houses the Emerald Buddha.
